Best Singeli Song- Annual Secondary School Contest

Annual Secondary School Contest

Kilombero Valley Teak Company encourages students to participate actively in extracurricular activities which will give them opportunity to learn how to work hard, have fun, and accomplish their goals. This establishes a strong foundation and instills confidence to help them advance in the future. This time is Singeli song competitions.

Singeli is a contemporary informal Tanzanian urban narrative. It involves the beats produced by a DJ and person singing to the beats while others dance. The words sung by the singer are prompt words that are expressed at specific moment. Singeli dancing involves energetic high speed leg movements and clapping hands.

Singeli is characterized by frenetic beats that blend various musical influences from Tanzania. When it emerged in the late 2000s in the working-class districts of Dar es Salaam, Singeli initially existed on the fringes of the mainstream music scene. However, over time, it has grown to captivate both Tanzanian audiences and the world at large.

Theme: “Take care of environment, it will take care of you (Tunza Mazingira Yakutunze)”

Preamble:The current times have proven more challenging with a lot of uncertainty for the world, but one thing is not uncertain, and we can always rely on: the never-ending capacity of children to dream of a better world. Through children’s eyes and imagination, we receive clear and unmasked views of today’s main problems as well as fresh and unbiased perception on appropriate actions. There is nothing like children’s expressions of hopes and dreams, to bring in to focus for all of us, what is truly important in life.

Objectives: Our aim is to encourage the children who are responsible for the future, through this Contest, to take a fresh look at how precious nature surrounding them is and to deepen their understanding of the key actors of the global environment by using Singeli song.
